Greetings From Sylvia

Dear Mu Phis,

February is always a special time for our Alumni Chapter. We look forward to the Joint meeting with the SAI Alumni members.  Many of us work together regularly. It is always a pleasure to share an evening of music-making and fellowship.  A meeting in the home of the Dardaganians is always a special treat.  Where else in town can you find two wonderful pianos and a harpsichord?  And that beautiful room!  Do plan to come on February 18th.

There is a lot of preparation being made for the Centennial convention in Cincinnati in June.  I hope that several of you are making plans to attend and even participate in some of the programs.  It should be a great time.

Wynona is a busy lady.  She has sent the names of several people in our area who are alumni.  We are looking forward to having some of them attend our meeting and perhaps become active in our chapter.

Claudia Jameson’s e-mail is now cnavjameson@hotmail.com.

Sympathies to Edie and Lloyd Pfautsch on two deaths in Lloyd’s family over the holidays.

From Karolyn Sailer: I finally found the website.  It's great!  I read all the interviews and enjoyed them very much.  Keep those coming.  I feel like I am visiting with my friends.  Miss you all, but I really like teaching in Clovis.  I am taking 17 8 & 9th graders to Southeast District Honor Choir in Artesia (4:00 AM to 12:00 midnight – am I a masochist?)  Tell everybody, "Hello" for me.

Chairperson Needed for

Sunday Concert Series

Edie Pfautsch announced that she is not going to continue next year as chairperson of our much-awarded Sunday Concert Series at the downtown library. She has done a beautiful job for lots of years, and needs to pass it on.

If you would like to see this series continue and know lots of performers, please volunteer to do this job. The busiest time is spring, lining up performers for our fall and spring concerts. You are also the liaison to the Library and bring the posters/programs to the Library on Sunday afternoons and introduce performers. Other people also help with Sunday afternoon duty. You would have lots of help from other members of the committee (who print and send publicity, letters to performers and programs.) This is our 65th year, and without a chairperson, it will be our last. Please consider it!

As a chapter, we all need to support our chairperson with suggestions for performers and with introducing on Sunday. Please volunteer to introduce a spring concert (pfautsch@mail.smu.edu).

Remember, our concerts ( and any changes, performer vitas and programs when available) are listed on our webpage: www.muphiepsilondallas.org.

Concert Series

There are a few changes and additions to concerts listed in your yearbook, including the substitution of Angela Favazza, Piano for Fredrika Phillips. Other changes are additions of performers.

MΦE Centennial Celebration

From Wynona Lipsett, International President:

A couple of things:

1.   I hope the Dallas alumni will send a check to help support the Mu Phi booth at TMEA!

2.   I encourage everyone to meet the "Presidential Challenge" of $100 per member to the Centennial Fund as a gift to the fraternity!

Plans are really beginning to shape up for the gala convention and I hope many Dallas alumni can be there to enjoy, participate and celebrate the 100th birthday!

Mu Phi love . . .

Wyn

Remember that the Mu Phi Epsilon 100th year celebration is in Cincinnati, Ohio August 6-11th, 2003.  To contribute to a fund to support it, write a check to Mu Phi Epsilon Centennial Fund, and send it to Mu Phi Epsilon, 4202 Atlantic Ave. #202, Long Beach, CA 90807-2826.

UPDATE: Raffle winners who helped raise funds for this event were announced in The Triangle which came out this week.. Grand prize, a trip to convention, was won by Annette Der Sarkisian of Boston. Winning tickets were drawn on Dec. 15, 2002. Thanks to all who supported the raffle.

The current Triangle also has more information on outreach opportunities at the convention and opportunities to perform in a convention orchestra or chorus for the premier of a large work for orchestra and chorus. Registration fee is $50 for each, and registration is needed by May 1, 2003.

In addition, chapter members may buy an ad in the convention program (needed by March 1) and that form is in the current Triangle, or submit a song for the Centennial Songbook (also needed by March 1), donate an item to the Silent Auction (contact Marilyn Sandness - sandness@erinet.com), and/or reserve a copy of the Centennial History Book (reserve by March 1 to International Executive Office, 4202 Atlantic Ave. #202, Long Beach CA  90807-2826).
